Exchange rates
A company selling in dollars and keeping its books in francs needs a rate every day. Two feeds provide it; Hela writes them into the company's rate table, in place of the morning's typing.
| Feed | Source | Frequency | Connection |
|---|---|---|---|
| European Central Bank | ECB daily reference rates, euro pivot, some thirty currencies | Once a day (around 16:00 CET) | None — free, no key |
| Open Exchange Rates | 170 currencies, dollar pivot, including CDF, KES, UGX, TZS, RWF, XOF, XAF, NGN, GHS | Every 6 hours | An app_id (free tier: 1,000 calls per month) |
Connecting
Integrations → the feed → Connect. Enter the currencies to follow (those the company accepts; the base currency is implicit). For Open Exchange Rates, paste the app_id.
What is written
For every followed currency, the rate to the company's base currency, computed through the feed's pivot: a USD company accepting euros gets EUR → USD ≈ 1.08; a CDF company accepting dollars gets USD → CDF ≈ 2,850. Every update emits rate.updated.
Sales keep the rate of the day of the sale (rateToBase); an update never rewrites the past.
Official rate or market rate
In several countries the central bank's rate differs from the one in use. The feed writes the reference rate; you can correct it by hand in Settings → Currencies, and the correction holds until the next update. For a permanent in-house rate, drop that currency from the feed's list.
Without a feed
POST /companies/{id}/rates writes a rate; GET /companies/{id}/rates reads them. A script or a Zap can thus push your bank's or your dealer's rate.
