MCP server

The Model Context Protocol is how an assistant (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Cursor…) plugs into tools. @hela/mcp exposes a Hela company to an assistant: it can read sales, receivables, stock, and — if you allow it — draft a quote or record a payment.

Install

npm install -g @hela/mcp

Or, without installing, npx @hela/mcp.

Configure

The server reads three variables:

Variable Role
HELA_API_URL https://<your-server>/v1
HELA_API_KEY An API key. Its scopes bound what the assistant can do: a read-only key gives a read-only assistant.
HELA_COMPANY_ID The company.

With Claude Desktop, in claude_desktop_config.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "hela": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@hela/mcp"],
      "env": {
        "HELA_API_URL": "https://api.example.com/v1",
        "HELA_API_KEY": "hela_live_…",
        "HELA_COMPANY_ID": "4c1d…"
      }
    }
  }
}

Tools

Tool What it does Writes?
list_sales A period's sales, filterable by customer, status, location. no
get_sale One sale and its detail. no
get_receivables Who owes what, and for how long. no
low_stock Items under their threshold. no
daily_report A day's summary: sales, takings, margin, till. no
search_partners, search_items Find a customer, an item. no
create_quote Draft a quote from lines and a customer. yes
record_payment Record a payment on an invoice. yes
send_reminder Send a reminder for an overdue invoice. yes

Writing tools are declared with requires_confirmation: the assistant must show you what it is about to do and wait for your go-ahead. With a test key they are present but the server answers forbidden — handy for trying without risk.

What the assistant sees

Amounts are given to it already converted to major units with the currency ("125.00 USD"); it need not know that the franc has no decimals. Technical ids stay available to chain tools.

The server keeps nothing: every call goes to the API with the given key, and document history reads "API key " as the author. Revoking the key cuts the assistant off.
